I just bought a 92 Javelin 389T to replace a bad hull/transom Procraft i have. The guy blew the OMC up, so i bought it to put my good 98 Mariner 115 on it. The problem i'm having is coming up with the right setup for the steering. The old boat has the single cable and appears to be the rotary style. I'm still trying to remove it from the helm. I can't use the Javelin steering since is the dual setup. I'd just like to go ahead and buy a kit if possible, but the one i thought i was going to order ended up being for smaller outboards under 50hp. It was the Teleflex Safe T something. I don't have the money to go with the hydraulic setup like i've read quite a few suggesting in other posts, so i will need to go with the cheaper setup for now. Any recommendations on which would be the best kit or right kit to go with? If i could use the old boat setup i would, but it's shorter than it needs to be for the new boat. Thanks in advance for any info or direction on where to look.

What model steering is on the Javelin? Why is the dual unable to be used, cables to short/long?

Thanks Roscoe. All my searches never brought that one up.

Alldodge, in some reading i did, i kept seeing that the dual wouldn't work with the single cable setup. My Mariner has the single cable at the motor. The Javelin had the dual cable setup. I was thinking one pushed and the other pulled? It's already out of the boat since the guy was going to swap to another motor as well. If i read that wrong, please correct me. I think i may have all the parts he left to be able to use the original Javelin setup. It should be the right length as far as the cable length goes.

It is the same style, the rotary steering, just has the 2 cables going to the motor.

Oh ok. I didn't know that. I just read it couldn't be used. Learning something new, especially about boats, every day.

Update on this post. Mariner 115 mounted successfully on Javelin. New steering and new controls are all working great. New gauges working except for the temp gauge. Have to work on that one still. Boat runs great and we are having a blast in it. Done some fishing and recently did some tubing. Thanks for the help.
