I bought a new throttle cable and installed it as per the instructions in the Top secret file however when shifting to full forward and then back to neural i cannot get it to go back to the idle stop its about 1/4 to 1/2 inch short from the idle stop.I have to manually push it to bring the idel down.I have greased the throttle pins sprayed a little wd 40 on the timer base and adjusted the black cable trunion a hundred times. I still however stops short of the idle stop no matter what i do.I am not sure why this is happening the cable is brand new??

Well obviously its not right so start again. only this time when you put it in the control box make sure the cable is pushed hard back towards engine when in nuetral.
youve got too much cable going into foward motion .
Hard to explain but very easy to solve when its in front of you.

your obviously getting full throttle but probably right at the end of the levers travel instead of about 3/4 travel.
if your adjusting at engine end, then leave throttle in nutral at the remote, then push the cable at engine towards the front as far as possible then connect the cable to engine with the throttle stop in closed position.

that will 100% cure the problem of not getting the throttle stop back to its right place.

you will kick yourself when you do it right..very easy mistake when attaching new cables ha ha ha

Yeah i ordered new control parts as the tension inside the control is completely lacking. When i place the control in neutral i should be able to hold it against the idle stop and have the cable fit right in place with out having to put the cable in there so tight. The control is not holding the tension i even cleaned and greased the control box but no dice

If it was necessary to remove the single lever control handle, it's possible that you did not have the control box inner components in the neutral position when you replaced the throttle handle in its vertical position. (It happens)

If so, when returning the control handle to the normal neutral/idle vertical position, the control box inner components would obviously be in some other position other than neutral.

If this is the case, disconnect the cables and observe them as you move the throttle/shift handle........

When the throttle cable travels to its return spot and stops, then the shift cable moves to a point and stops... that's neutral/idle and you should feel it click into place. If the throttle handle is not vertical at that setting, remove and reinstall it vertically.

Could be as previously stated. You might also want to check the bushings in the remote. Mine was doing same thing. Had bushings replaced & no more problem.
