Hi,
Any comments on the Piranha composite props?
i need to replace a Merc 48-79574A 4 19P I looked online it says it is discontinued or costs a minor fortune (350 or more)

i saw somewhere it was superceded by the Black Max 1A-HU1419A 155 the original is 15.5" x 19 pitch (which by the way only gets me 3900-4000 WOT) but the Black Max specs are 14" 19P

I can get an exact replacement so they say, from Piranha for about 170 clams but I am not sure about the product.

Also, 4811324A45 has a cross to a part number 48-11324A45 but no specs for it.

This is a Merc 120 ser # 5778359 B on my 1981' open bow
The Mercruiser has 1.98R stamped on the upper unit...

Re: Composite props and correct pitches

I had a difficult time finding any info before I bought one 2 years ago. The reason I bought one was because I boat in a shallow lake and ended up dinging my stock aluminum a few times. I replaced it with the stock size 14x21p piranha. I bought the package where you get 2 sets of blades. I felt it was a little pricey at the time, but its nice to know that in the worst case scenario you're out $60 for a 3 blade prop. As far as performance, I run a 17.5 foot runabout with a 3.0 liter mercruiser. The holeshot may be a little better than stock, but I lost about 1-2 mph top end. I have been running it hard the last 2 seasons and had no trouble at all, so I say go for it.

I guess a stock Merc Black Max 14.5 x 19 PN 48-832830A45 won't work??

Michigain Vortex is comparable and is $230.

Sorry, no experience with the Pirahana.

the 11324A45 is a 15-1/2X18 cupped, flo-torq equiped hub.
The prop crownie lists is for the same application...either will work.
