I checked compression and read 72 psi top, 90 psi bottom. This is with the valves closed(screws backed out).

What is the normal, acceptable reading?

What is the procedure for adjusting the valves to assist in pull starting?

I have ordered a manual but have nothing else to do this weekend. :D

Beach... You don't say whether the compression readings were taken with a electric starter or by using a manual starter. The readings could vary slightly using a manual starter, but eighteen (18) pounds difference would indicate that something is amiss. The reading should be even on both cylinders, and in the 100 psi range.

The gap setting of those compression release valves valves would be .020 .

Readings were by pull rope, 4 brisk pull on a cold engine.

I took new readings this morning a got:
102 top
108 bottom

It was late last night and dark, maybe I didn't have the gauge screwed in enough, I don't know.
