Hi guys, i have a little project im working on that has a 1990 90hp force l-drive in it.

Have not had the boat started yet (waiting to drain old gas out of tank and replace). Turns over and i have spark spark though.

I did a compression test though and i got 120-120-90. I figure that is a big problem.

I would say the boat has been sitting outside for about a year and was not winterized. The crankshaft was a little stiff when i first got it, but i loosed it up quite easily with a few back and forths on the fly wheel.

Maybe bad piston ring? Head gasket?

Any thoughts?

30# is a bit much.Spray some oil in the cylinder and see if it comes up.
After you get it running.Use some Seafoam or Powertune by Merc.
It will maybe bring up the comp.Maybe not.
It could be the head gasket is bad or the rings stuck.
I'd think about removing the head and checking the gasket.

Thanks for the reply.... Will try it out

A cracked block would have a much lower compression would it not?

Doubt very seriously a cracked block.
You would probaly have water shootin everywhere or in the cylinders.Your problem is very fixable.Just don't run it(except to diagnose) till you figure out the problem.
