Computer monitor question

Ok, I have this strange problem with my computer/monitor. I've set the vertical and horizontal width and location of the screen on the monitor, and sometimes when it comes off of screen saver or when I reboot it's toward the top, and I have to adjust the vertical height back down again. It's not an old monitor (meaning its all buttons, no knobs) and the computer is 2 months old. What gives? Got any ideas? It seems to be behaving in the past day or so, but other than that it's a constant battle to re-center the screen. It stays re-centered until screen saver or more often a reboot, then it's off kilter again. It's never off by much. For example, I may be able to see just half of the blue bar at the top of the web browser.

You might want to make sure you have the right driver for the monitor.

It shouldn't matter about the driver. As long as you're returning to the same resolution and refresh rate it should go back to your old settings.

How it works is like this. The computer puts out (among other things) a couple of pulses that affects the resolution and refresh rate of the montior. A little computer inside the monitor sees how often the pulses come by and figures out your resolution and refresh rate. It then looks up the width, higth, position, etc settings on a table in it's memory. Of course, you adjust the entries in the table when you use the buttons on the front of the monitor.

So it's loosing it's settings table. That could be caused by a defect in the monitor. Or perhaps the computer is putting out a series of pulses when it's changing resolutions that confuses the computer in the monitor so badly it has to reboot itself. Is it possible to try the monitor on another computer, or perhaps install a different video card in your computer?

Re: Computer monitor question

I can't really try it on another computer because I don't own one. Trying it on another video card could work since it has a built in video card that has been disabled to allow for my upgraded gaming card.

I do have different resolutions for the different games I have. Maybe it's after I close a game....I never really thought about it like that.

You certainly gave me some ideas.

I'll be darn. On my Nvidia properties settings, you can click on 4 arrows, 1 on each side of the screen, and drag the screen where you want it. I just clicked the up arrow to put it where I want it. Hmm, maybe that fixed it.
