Ok folks, my cable provider locally decided to not carry the NHL center ice package(sorry big hockey fan here) but since they couldnt come to an agreement with center ice, they are offering the center ice package online and my cable company is willing to pay half of it(im guessing around 70$) since my cable modem is also through my tv cable company....My question is I dont have a video card for the computer, and im guessing I will need one... My question is how can I set it up to be able to watch the hockey games that are broadcast online and watch them on my tv that sits about 30' away in my living room...What would I need and approx cost to get that done... Right now Im deciding if its best to ditch my cable for the tv and go with a dish that has center ice package(direct tv,most likely) or go the online route and watch them on my tv.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

You will need a video/tv out port on your computer and sound/line out from your soundcard to the video/sound in jacks on your tv/monitor.
You may need to buy a video card with those capabilities. Some capture cards will do tv out but however you do it you will need that video/tv out function.
If your tv/monitor does not have video/sound in then you will need to use a vcr to plug the video and sound in then use the antenna out of the vcr to connect to the antenna jack on your tv.
Laptops sometimes have the video out jack for travelers making presentations.
I am not sure how the signal will be presented to you to process but you may need a capture card with a tuner as well.It is not difficult to do.Ron G

Re: Computer to tv hookup....

I have 2 media center computers one with and ATI card and one with a whatever card

If you have a NEW TV with a PC input it works out pretty good BUT 30' is a LONG cable

With older TV sets

The computer monitor and the TV set show stuff in different ways with the TV generally 30 frames a second and the computer say 60 FPS

The end result is very hit and miss :( in picture quality

The other issue is with DMCA (copy protection) i can watch a DVD on the computer monitor BUT the software stops it from being played on the s-video output to a second screen (Your TV SET)

The tv out or svideo will be an NTSC signal which will be compatible with your tv with respect to frame rate and scan rate. The conversion will be done on the video adapter, that is the purpose of having the tv out port.
The variable scan rates available to your monitor were never intended to be displayed on an NTSC receiver.
Your picture quality will suffer compared to the display on your monitor but that is the tradeoff to viewing it on a larger screen designed to display a low resolution NTSC signal.Ron G
