Im concidering a manual Jackplate,3-5" setback. Does it appear to anyone that the installation may require me to have to change my steering cables? (Lengthwise). Best picture I have available right now.

Re: Concidering a Jackplate!

Lube, that's a tough one... Based on your photo it looks like you don't have much room to play with...

Are you planning on installing it yourself? If so can you somehow simulate it's position with a jack plate? If you can lift the engine, you can easily see if the cables will be stressed by just moving the motor back a little...

I'll even rig up a lifting eye for you and let you borrow it, if you don't have one already...

Lubedude, looks to me like you will have to change your cable.Don't believe you have any slack at all in the one on there now.Tough decision.

I think I may just leave well enough alone.

Thanks for the replyes. I looked in the back of the boat, and I do not have much if any extra cable there, also the angle might be bad.

WOW! "countem" one, two, three, four, five... FIVE BLADES! wow..

You will be better off getting new steering cable, I would recommend getting one that you can crimp and cut yourself, those readymades never fit.

Yes, Its a High Five by Mercury, It has a hole shot you wouldnt believe. I had better Top Speed with a 14.25 X 27P Four blade, but I went back to this prop for the hole shot, bite in the turns, and I can throw a rooster tail about 2/3 the lenth of a football field. Its faster if I dont do that, but it looks cool. Only about 2 MPH difference in the two props, Im running about 63 MPH GPS now with this prop.

Re: Concidering a Jackplate!

Last year we went to a outside concert on American Lake and there were a couple guys racing around shooting 65-75 yard rooster tails. Mom in law (sail boater 40+ years) asked how come they did that? My answer ofcourse was-Because they can! :D Real crowd pleasers to say the least.

Hey if you do decide to play with jack plates at least look at this one.

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi?prod_id=38721&current_category=hardware cmc&*******=107480898

Doesn't really sound like you need one (not that it wouldn't help) These things are built really tough. When I took it to Almar to have them build a extention bracket to hang it on, they said there was no way they could make it that thick and heavy but but would build the extention to handle it.

Total set back is 18 inches.
