Hello;
I have a 1997 5.7L LX with a Bravo II drive. The drive is very hard to shift. I have replaced the shift cable and the helm shifter also lubed everything.Also pulled the cover and cleaned the shift d-tent and applied new grease , and the drive still shifts hard. I have to push and pull the shifter very hard , other than the hard push and pull , it shifts into and out of gear good. Am I correct in thinking that the cone clutch is worn and in need of replacement ? I don't think this drive was ever worked on.
Thanks !

Have you tried to shift it by disconnecting the lower shift cable from the shift plate and push/pull with a pair of pliers?

I disconnected the shift cable at the engine , and it wont move by hand . Than I put a screwdriver through the hole at the end and still no movement.
Tomorrow I will remove the drive and try the cable again.
Will let you know !
Thanks

At the shop we replaced the shift linkage in the drive and used silicone grease on the inner shift cable .
She shifts fine now ! Looks like it was a little crud and a little wear .
Thanks for your help !!
