so could that be a possible source of the problem? I did try the reverse-gun it - solution. is the problem simply the weeds winding around the prop and lower unit?

Re: confusing problem from today...

had a chance to look a little closer at my problem today and heres what \i have found.

with the boat in gear I could turn the prop by hand and there was a constant "slippage" every quarter turn or so. This was not in the hub though, but in the whole shaft? in reversre the same thing except the sound of the sippage was different, more like a clicking sound?

Engine OFF, shifted into Forward gear

you should be able to STAND on the port side blade of the prop without turning the propshaft (unless you are heavy enough that the motor turns over)

any attempt to turn the prop CW and the shift dogs should 'cam over' letting the propshaft turn with a clicking/ratcheting sound.

If the prop/shaft turns CCW without turning over the motor then there is a serious problem that needs attention.

Sounds very possible that you simply had a big clump of weeds . . . It should've worked OK for a couple of minutes though, but my guess is that you idled out, picked up the weeds, and then tried to get going and it wouldn't. The weeds just clog the prop and that's why it doesn't go, not because they are wrapped around the lower unit.

I am confused about what you saw when you put her on the trailer though. Weeds then?

Ayuh,....

While the Seaweed would explain the original Issue,....

The quote above is still baffling,....
You should Not be able to turn the prop, while in gear, against the gears.... Period....
It should rachet when turning it opposite the gear,+ it should Lock Solid turning it with the gear...

And,......
Have you Checked the drive Oil yet,... I asked before,+ see No reply about it...
