Connecting ipod to car stereo?

Both my car and boat have aftermarket audio units without plug in for the ipod. I tried a simple y-cable red and white male leads into the back of the audio unit connected to the ipod headset out. I get sound only from the rear speakers both in car and boat, but this results in very little volume when playing tunes on the ipod....do I need a special cable or what am I doing wrong? I thought the simple connection would work OK.

You need to get an fm transmitter. I picked up a cheaper one for $30 at wal-mart, although it doesnt seem to work as goos as the more expensive ones.

I wasn't able to find an FM transmitter that worked worth a crap. I bought an adapter from Circuit City for around $35 that hooks into the back of the stereo and has a flat plug that you plug your Ipod into. Works great! I forget the brand name, but I think it is the only one they sold for an '04 Accord.

Re: Connecting ipod to car stereo?

The car stereo is:
Kenwood KDC 322 I currently have the red/white male connector to the rear of the unit, and the other end is connected to the ipod earphone out. this stereo is Sirius ready so there is a port for that as well on the rear. No jack on the front of the head unit though.

I will get the model # of the boat stereo later tonite, I know it has tha same connector on the rear for the red/white male plug in and it has a round multi hole jack for another connector on the rear, no front jack on the unit either.

thanks.

If it is Sirius ready, do you know that there isn't an iPod connection option? I have an Alpine unit in my truck with the iPod connection feature and I LOVE it.

I think you're connecting your iPod to an RCA output for an amplifier. Any sound you may be getting is probably coming from crosstalk. You could be in danger of damaging your iPOD.

Your unit does not have an AUX input on the front OR the back. However, you can buy an adaptor than converts the CD changer interface into an AUX input...

If you use that, you won't be able to use a CD changer.

If you need both the changer and AUX input, you will also need...

Like the other poster said, call them and they'll get you straight.:)

if your stereos have a plug for sat radio and you dont have sat radio you can get a adapter to plug in where the sat radio goes to run your ipod thru it and get good sound.
