ShoestringMariner I ran a SS160 last summer with an 85hp V4 Evinrude and it topped out at about 38-39 depending on current. I also ran a SS160 with a 3cyl 70hp Johnny Rude that topped out at about 34mph. So both are good choices in my opinion. The V4 popped right out of the hole and planed almost instantly. I like the way both ran and for gas consumption I would pick the 3cyl. Good luck and keep us posted.
Yeah you should get 40 or close to it with a 90 for sure although they are rated for 85 HP max. After 40 it takes a bunch of power to move these hulls much faster, they just are not made for speed.
