Constant alarm, Engine goes innto SLOW mode, Do I need the temp sensors?

The alarm is going off though causing the engine to go into S.L.O.W mode after I am at wide open throttle for a while then slow down. The engine clunks, like it kicks in and out of gear and wont go past 2300 rpms.

If I turn her off and restart the alarm goes off and she goes full steam ahead. I installed two new temperture sensors that run to two new water temperature guages on my dash so I can monitor each head individually. They are not getting above 120 degrees on each side so I dont believe she is overheating. Do I need the sensors connected to run this engine properly?

I want to remove the sensors to test them but they are not coming out and I am afraid to pull to hard on the wires fearing I may pull them out of the sensor and be F'ed all together. Anybody have some good insight into how to get the temperature sensors out easily?

What you could do if you're SURE the mtr is not overheating and peeing water out of the pee hole, is disconnect one temp switch at a time and take it for a run and see what happens. If you have both disconnected and it still goes into slow you may have a shorted wire to grd on the tan wires, a bad diode in the mtr wiring harness or a bad pulse pack. The easy way to take the temp senders out is to unscrew the plastic nuts that hold them in and dig them out with a pick.

The sender wires use ordinary bullet connectors but sometimes the plastic shields get brittle and hard to remove. Use a hair drier or heat gun to soften the plastic and pull the connections apart. Pull on the connector pieces, not the wires. If you break one, no biggie, just crimp a new bullet or socket in place.

make sure the tan sensor wire isn't touching the sparkplug lead.

Note that the port sensor has a double function.
It even shuts off the quick start (black/white) at about 32C.
As you have installed temp gauges, it would be interesting to know your reading.
This engine should normally DROP the temp at full throttle.
If your temp is constant and rising from idle and when rpm is increased, time for an impeller change minimum.
It might even be time to pull the heads, clean the contact surface between heads and block and change the O-rings.

All work done a few weeks ago to the cooling system:
New Impeller, seals and housing
New T-stats
New T-stat orings
New temperature senders to guages
New wiring to guages
New Guages
New Fuel lines from the tank to the fuel pump
I did not replace the starboard temperature switch part # 0584152
or the port temperature switch part# 0584589

I found that the fuel vaccum switch ay. part# 0433409 was not seated to the engine, it looks like the retainer ring is not holding it in place. Would this cause this problem? Does this switch put the engine into SLOW mode? I understand it will sound the alarm but when I disconnected the wires to it the alarm did not go off.

I also disconnected the temperature switch and still the alarm does not go off. When the alarm was off, I connected the tan wire to ground and it did not set the alarm off.

Im very confused with this problem; It runs great once it runs for a little while (5 minutes or more) and I slowly throttle up but if I start her after sitting for a while and try to throttle right away she bucks and bangs out of gear. Its a frightning sound and I have had it happen when at 1/2 throttle before, felt light I hit something, the bang is so hard.

Its not but how do I keep it away from it, should I put an insulator around the wire like whats around the stator wires.

I believe you should start by checking out the alarm system.
Disconnect all switches, remove the brown going into PP.
Ground one at the time of the switches:
Temp
Vacume
Oil level
VRO
The alarm should go off.
If not, you may simply have a faulty horn .
Is the alarm sounding when key 'ON' and the System Check counting down the lights?

The alarm goes on before I start the engine. I dont have lights that count down.

Any more info on where the Oil level sensor is?
And where the VRO sensor is and what it is?

Not sure if the alarm is faulty, but very possible, since she runs bad at start after running for a while.

The oil level sensor is in the pick-up of the VRO tank.
The No-Oil switch is in the VRO pump.
All alarm switches has a brown wire, the low-oil alarm however does not activate SLOW due to a diode blocking in the engine harness.

NO, I bought new temperature sensors, and a new diode. Where is the diode? I cant find it? Got a photos I can use for reference?

I know this is a few months old, but I am interested in knowing if installing the diode fixed your problem.
