Constant Engine alarm

I have a 2006 regal 2650 with a 5.7 GX Volvo penta engine. I had the boat into the mechanics for a blown out freeze plug. They ended up putting the port and starboard freeze plugs back in and changed the water pump. When I got the boat back to the house, when I turned the key to the on position I got a loud alarm noise that wouldn’t go off. I called regal and left a message for a representative to get back to me. I brought the boat back to the mechanic, and he put it on the laptop, no error codes were thrown out. He diagnosed it as a faulty alarm and ordered a new alarm. Meanwhile I got a call back from regal, they said the only things alarmed are the oil pressure switch, the temperature pressure switch and the low outdrive gear oil and lastly could be a faulty alarm. When I called the mechanic to check if the part came in, it was in, I had told him that I spoke with regal and told him about the four alarm possibilities, he told me that Volvo penta only had that outdrive low gear oil alarm trigger in one model only available for two years and it was a complete failure and mine was not that model. He then reiterated that there were no codes thrown. I brought the boat back yesterday and texted him today and he said he put the new alarm in and that it didn’t take care of the problem and The alarm is still sounding and he will get back on it. My question Is, is it possible that either the oil pressure or temperature sensor switch is bad even though the computer did not register a fault code for them. Is there a low gear oil alarm trigger? When I dropped the boat off last, I did ask him if before he put the new alarm in can he check the gear oil, which he replied I already told you your boat does not have a low gear oil alarm. So I can see this getting crazy with hourly diagnostic fees so I’m trying to see what you might think. The only other thing I know of and doubt this is it but not too sure, when I got the boat back when it was last winterized, the ignition switch in the off position is now at the 1 o’clock position and not at 12 where it was when it first went in. Could that out of position switch touch maybe a ground wire or something? Latest update was that he called Volvo technical support ( he is a Volvo penta dealer) and gave them the serial numbers of my computer and another boats computer To see if they are identical to swap them out and see if the alarm goes off. ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE WHY THIS ALARM IS SOUNDING. It is under the dash at the helm. He said he did also take the wires off both the oil switch and temp switch. I need answers. Please help. 2006 regal 2650 5.7 Volvo penta GX-i engine.

first, welcome aboard

Second, need to know exactly what GX engines you have

Third, if you pushed a core plug out, on a GM motor, you now have a cracked block (they are not freeze plugs, they are core plugs to get the core sand out of the casting) the only thing that pushes a core plug out is ice

4th, there are a few reasons that an alarm may be sounding. oil pressure and water temp are the two main reasons.

5th, mercuiser has low gear oil alarms. Volvo has a dipstick in the drive you are supposed to check often

Depending on which GXI the Tan/Blue wire connects to the ECM and then motor alarm.

If the Tan/Blue wire is chaffed and is grounding out anywhere between J1-6 and the alarm at the helm, the alarm will sound. The alarm is connected to 12V when key is turned ON, and the other side is connected to the Tan/Blue wire.

If the Tan/Blue wire is grounded anywhere along from alarm to the ECM, the alarm will sound. So you probably just have a break in the insulation. Either that or the ECM is grounding the wire and needs to be repaired. Way to check the ECM is grounding, unplug it and turn ignition ON

I believe the engine is an “E” . The core plugs were replaced and a new water pump assembly with the pulley was installed and they ran the engine. The oil pressure is at 40 and temperature is 160. So the mechanic was 99% sure the block is not cracked. I was informed my volvo does Not have the low gear oil sensor. A few questions that I have from some research throughout the forums. I’ve seen info of other alarm triggers could be cam sensor, would thus trigger alarm? Also I have a faria depth gauge that from day 1 was wonky, but doesn’t that have its own alarm buzzer? would that trigger the under dash helm alarm? I’ve hit the mute button on it but the under dash alarm still sounds so not sure if the faria gauge is it either. And then something about a wire on the flame arrestor can be broken. Does the Volvo penta have that wire that would trigger the alarm? Also other then the temperature switch I’ve read there are two switches on the risers are these in addition to the temp switch. I think he removed wires from two switches. Oil and temp, should he have done four? Oil, temp, port riser, starboard riser? Thank you fir your help.

My first pic showed J1-6 but that point to the wrong wire, its J1-8 for that one and this one. Pic below is of the GXI-D and I'm pretty sure it should be the same for the E.

While the depth finder does have an alarm, you have to tell us if its the motor or depth alarm

would that trigger the under dash helm alarm?

As prior, the ECM is the only thing that will trigger the alarm other then the unintentional grounding of the wire by the insulation be chaffed.

Different things cause different alarms. Such things like ECT high over heat, low oil pressure can cause a constant alarm. Things like ECT just above 190* will be a soft alarm 1 beep every 5 seconds. Being a soft alarm or hard alarm are all codes which will show up in scanning the motor.

Exhaust temp senders will cause an alarm, but they are not connected directly to the alarm, they connect thru other pins on the ECM, and the ECM is what turns the alarm ON

The mechanic says there is no codes, and even he is asking others what could cause an alarm with no code. One which can is the wire shorting out to ground

alldodge it is the motor alarm. Last I heard from him he took a recording of the engine running on a file on their diagnostic software which he said is very common and emailed it to Volvo. They are supposed to get back to him on Monday.
