I went to look at a trailer with an older v8 i/o boat on it. The trailer had a
continental logo sticker on it, the model sticker was faded so no info there.
I looked on continentals' website and it looks like their tilt keel roller type
galvanized, its a 3/8'' C CHANNEL construction. Anyone know what they
cost? The only thing I didn't like about this one is the 5ft. wide frame.
The frame looks like it could carry a tank. About 21' OAL.

i have just completed rebuilding a 1997 continental tandum and it cost well over $800.00 plus a great deal of time sionce it was all rotten. The galvenized does not last very long, could be a cheaper process. The fenders fell off only a couple of years after I purchased the new trailer and new Chapperel boat. I would never buy this type again. I am coating the entire trailer with lubecoat. an oil spray that lasts for a few months, and you can be sure I will spray it regularly. It's a shame that quality no longer exists.

They are on the cheap end as far as trailer go, spend a little more and get something nicer!

Most all trailer manufacturers offering galvanized trailers subcontract the galvanizing process. The frames are build internally by bending the I-beams and welding on the cross members and spring mounting points. Then they along with the winch towers, tongues, etc. are sent out for the hot dip process. If the process is not done right, it will not protect the trailer over the years. Continental builds an ok trailer for the price. If you want better quality, a step up to aluminum would be a good choice, no matter who the manufacturer.

Some people have said they arent that good, but I just bought a CTA 2150B, with spare tire/wheel. Has tandems, brakes on both, aluminum, solid built.....it wasnt on the CHEAP side either. Bought to fit my Wellcraft 210 Classic, it was right at $3400.....it is a good trailer. I looked at many others that didnt seem as solid, with exceptiona SeaTech was pretty stout.

Thanks mohead, I was pretty impressed with the sales pitch and reviews from other threads. I like that they use the really thick, 7.5", I beam. I am picking mine up tomorrow.

She's not that big, but she's mine :) I hope she runs perfect ;) Yours looks great, cuddy's are good I just wanted to go bigger for the kids.

I just realized that I'd read and responded to your thread about salt water concerns in the boat sub-forum. Welcome to Florida! If you come up this way let me know.

I picked my Continental today :) Seems really nice. Can't wait to finally bring my boat home.

Who give a $h17??? Why do folks care so much? Isn't it better to find a thread that was dedicated to the question - as long as it doesn't contain extremely dated info?

Nah, it's better to start new threads for every single thing that pops up

I have heard both good and bad but it depends upon the condition of it.

It's amazing how many boat related shops are closed Sat, Sun or both. I know they want to get out and enjoy too but they should hire someone. At least you have a trailer so you're not stuck. I had to cover storage until my new trailer could be built after the seller of the used one I bought refused to go through with the sale  That delay caused me to miss boating this weekend

Re: Continental trailers? anyone have experience?

Picked up my CTA2050B yesterday, its sweet....very nice trailer and well built. Now to get some corrosion inhibitors on the springs and hardware around on it.....I chose to save costs by not going with the torsion axles....I know everyone will bash me cuz of the springs and salt water, but if I take care of it, it should be ok....maintenance and alot of it I suppose...
With both axles having brakes it should make pulling easier

Re: Continental trailers? anyone have experience?

The CTA is nice, I enjoyed the disk brakes and the extra length means I can open the trunk without hitting the bow. Mine came with the torsion but what are these corrosion inhibitors?

Re: Continental trailers? anyone have experience?

There are several out there that keep the salt from corroding the metal on the trailer, or boat, or even your truck/car. CRC Corrosion Inhibitor is a spray, EverBrite (I think thats the name) has metal prep and coatings, and the stuff Im gonna use, Sharkhide.....the Sharkhide is some good stuff I have used it on aluminum and metal before, lasts a long time....check it out on-line
