Hi there, would anyone know where i could find a mounting template for a commander 4000 control box. Bought one second hand to relpace my 3000 classic and it didn't come with a template.
It will probably fit the same cutout as the 3000, if not, a template can be obtained through a Merc dealer. All he has to do is order the installation instructions for you.
I used the boat-side plate of the control box to mark where the holes would be drilled. My holes didn't line up either so I ended up covering one of the old ones and will put some kind of a decorative stud through the other one that is showing. It was neat to mount the new box where I felt it was comfortable for me - much different from where it had been mounted.
I ended up putting a 1" cedar plate between the boat and the control box to give me a little more hand room so my knuckles don't rub on the side of the boat.
I also tilted the front end down slightly as this felt more comfortable for me - i.e. pushing the throttle forward going a bit downhill and pulling back going slightly uphill. I seem to get more balanced pull when pulling on a sloped up angle - especially if I'm standing up.
