Hello, I am looking at a 15 hp Evinrude that the owner thinks is a 1985. He is selling it along with a steering station and I hope to put both on an inflatable RIB. I am curious what type of control box I need (I assume this will control the throttle). I have seen so many and with so many namesI'm not even sure I'm looking at the right parts. I found this but I'm not sure if it will work:

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Control Box

Well it will......but. It is a binnacle mount, that probably isn't what you want, is it? Besides, I don't see any cables included.

You want a Johnson Ship Master or Evinrude Simplex, dual lever control, preferably 1979-up.

Re: Control Box

I am going to mount this on a crossbar that supports the steering wheel, not a console and I don't want to drill into the boat. I just want to buy the part and then, when I get everything measured, I would buy the cables.

Re: Control Box

At any rate, you need a part number 393053 remote control adapter kit to connect the cables to your 1985 15hp. That is for OMC cables. If using something else, good luck.

You also need a part number 395245 steering adapter kit to connect the steering.

I have no idea what you are trying to do, but just for the record, here is what a standard Side mount control looks like. Note this is a 1967, in 1979 the cables and attachments were changed.

Re: Control Box

Thanks! Steering is already attached, I just don't want to have to reach for the tiller. I want to control the throttle and gears from the steering wheel. I appreciate the help.
