My 1994 7.4L uses separate throttle and shift cables but when searching I'm not finding separate cables, only single t/s cables. Are they just two of the same cable? The existing cables were damaged in a fire so I can't compare them.

Thanks.

you actually have two shift cables and one throttle cable.

Yes, the remote control throttle and shift cables are the same cable, but the lengths may be different. The second shift cable Scott is referring to is the lower shift cable that runs from the engine mounted shift plate to the drive. That cable is a Merc special and needs to be ordered from a Merc dealer.

Ayuh,.... This quote sounds like yer confusin' control Levers, with control cables,....

I've never heard of, nor seen a single cable that can control both throttle, 'n shiftin',.....

Single Lever, 'n dual Lever controls, use 2 cables, a throttle cable, 'n a shift cable,...

Buyin' cables, ya shop controller connection type, motor/ drive connection type, 'n the length in between,.....

I've got the lever vs cable thing down, but what I'm finding is a cable called a throttle /shift cable and I'm not seeing a throttle cable and a shift cable... That's why I was asking if they're both the same cable

Fortunately the lower shift cable wasn't involved in the fire and seems to function as expected. Now to get what's left of the old cables out and figure out the length.

Thanks guys!

Thats because the cables are the same. They will control the throtle function or the shift function.
