I have a couple of questions about converting a outboard thats setup for controls to a tiller.

I currently have a 1990 20hp johnson (tiller) and there is a 1983 60hp johnson for sale locally (controls) that im considering purchasing. I was wondering if maybe the tiller parts from the 20hp could go on the 60hp and vice versa. If not anyone have a idea how much it cost to convert a motor doing it yourself?

I suppose 60hp tiller motors might exist, but I've never seen one. Very few people would even want one. I'd guess they, or parts to convert might be very hard to find.

The parts exist I have seen that motor as a tiller and a lot of 40 hp motors.

Thanks guys. Maybe a better question is there a series that would be interchangeable with the 60hp like say 40hp-75hp motors around that year

You will have to do some research to find out which parts fit. I think you are better off trying to find a parts motor, as that will have everything you need to make the conversion. Will also be much cheaper because I believe the steering bracket needs to be changed out to get the tiller mount.
