Hello All ,
I am working on a bit of a project that I will be completing over time and have now just started gathering pieces to do it , but I am stumped on the controls part of this equation .
My boat is a 77 with an inboard OMC (electric shift, getting rid of that) I am converting that from the electric shift to a full mechanical shift 800 from an 1986 that was rotten. I gathered up everything off the donor boat , except the shifter as it was broken.
So my main question is , what controls can I start looking for ? again this will be a mechanical shift OMC 800 stringer and not a Cobra.
Do I have to stick with an OMC shifter or will other control boxes work ? like from a VP or merc ?
the donor boat controls of course had 2 cables , one for shift and one for the throttle .
In these more 'modern' boats that use a mechanical shift , do all of the control boxes cross over ? I cant really find any info out there.
