I have a 1974 Evinrude 9.9 model 10424G Serial E0012239

It runs great and I was using it on a 14 foot car top boat. I sold that boat and I want to use this motor as a kicker on a 19 foot Starcraft. I had a shoulder injury a few years ago and it is now hard for me to pull start the motor.

I can use the main engine charging system to keep the battery charged.

What parts would I need to convert this motor to electric start?

here was an electric starter kit but it is nla.

However if you go to the parts catlog HERE Open the drop down list, select OB accessories and then 1974 followed by "electrical" you will find the starter kit for 9.9and 15hp engines listed.
look at that and you will see( broken down into all the minor components ) what would have been in the kit.

Main items are of course the starter motor, a modified bypass cover on which it mounts and a new flywheel together with the switch and wiring harness.
Also included as you will see a stator coil and rectifier ... items you will not need.

All you have to do now is find all the parts you need!

Part # 0172791 is no longer available as Vic said. The list price of that kit was $295.

Here's a link to an eBay listing for a flywheel, starter and starter bracket that might fit your motor.

If that fits, you'd still need the cables, start button/switch, etc.

Personally, I think I'd start looking for a replacement motor with electric start ... rather than trying to piece together an "upgrade" for your 36 year old motor!

The motor was stored fogged for 23 years before I started using it. Dad had bought it for when he rented a boat, then a great bass fishing lake LADUE RESERVOIR opened. It was electric motors only so he bought a canoe and only fished that place for many years.

I did a tear down before I started using it 2 years ago. Most the parts still match factory spec.

I just found out there is a place by PYMATUMING LAKE that stocks the stuff I need. The specialized in 9.9 repair because until recently, the lake had a 10 HP limit.

Thanks for the reply. Now I can call them with part numbers.
