I am sure this has been asked before and if so would someone point in the right direction?

I am wanting to convert my 1988 20hp evinrude to a steering wheel and throttle lingages. Have been looking at all the steering and the throttle cables on here. What is all involved, what do I need to hook up throttle cable to motor? And biggest question is shifting from neutral to reverse to drive. I am wanting to turn into a centerconsole. I saw on another site a guy did the same to the exact same boat but did not convert throttle, left on the stick. I dont want that. Thanks for any help or a steer in right direction. Just trying to get things in order before I jump.

I suspect he didn't convert the throttle because shift/throttle control boxes can cost around $400.

you can easily put a steering wheel and mount it on a frame using simple steel cable wire steering and pulleys for not a big expense

surf ebay for used control boxes and see what you can find. shift/throttle cables I think only cost around $40 for both

Just about any of the later OMC control boxes will work, as far as throttle and shifting goes. I don't know if your engine is electric start or not.

The tricky part is going to be the cable brackets on the engine.

Contact these guys: Welcome to Twin City Outboard - Parts from 1906 to Present

Tell them what you are trying to do. They can probably fix you up with everything.

And for better communication with people you ask about this, you have tiller steering, stick steering is something different.

I too was wondering why you would be changing from a "Stick" steering to a center steering setup. But I see you actually meant tiller steering. Have you thought about Stick steering? It doesn't take up needed boat space and will work nicely for lower HP setups. Just a thought...

google "how stick steering works on outboards" and in the results go to the e-how link where you will also find there is a link there about converting from tiller to remote steering
