Children's church choir decided to have a fishing outing this past Sun. afternoon and guess who was the Master Baiter for the outing.

Found out something new our city has introduced. Local pond in park is stocked every two weeks with catfish, perch and bass. Open for fishing to the public.

Kids had a ball, many catching their first fish. Nice 1-11/2 lb. cats. We had 59 kids and all caught at least one fish. What a great day for fishing.

Sounds great.

Yeah, 59 and me!! I just found out about the stocking program but have contacted the Parks dept. and they have confirmed. I am fishing for a plaque for myself (not really) and have gotten 3 of my friends and we are going to build it up with charity money to stock some of the other ponds in town.

This is really exciting and to see the kids face when they get to reel in their first fish. Wow what a gift God has given.

Can anyone watch a youngster catch his/her first fish without smiling and feeling real gooooood?

TXS you have to love being involved in the community, especially when it involves making a difference in a kid's life. Your opening post reminds me though of one of my favorite Rodney Dangerfield lines. "Last week I tried to join Master Baiter's anonymous. They told me to 'Fudge Off!"

Local sporting goods store agreed this morning to sell us 880 combos at cost for kids to use when supervised. Told them kids fishing would be a great investment to their future sales and their home office agreed. They asked to remain anonymous at this point.

Tell me about good people.

We are thinking about a class for training basic fishing. Kid will get a certificate when completed to fish unsupervised when age 12. We are looking into some type of life preserver.

Sounds like you are hooked more than the kids. Keep up the good work. Hope the Rodney Dangerfield thing didn't spoil the thread.

I took my oldest daughter out in August across the bar and into the ocean and she caught her first salmon, a coho about 7#. That was a great day, for her and me. The fishing was so easy, contrary to the other times she's gone out with me on the river.. We parked right on the fish, I guess, because I literally got the first fish in about ten seconds, as I was letting the line out. Took about another half hour to get hers, and then we came back in because it was getting rough.

Too late for this one, she went to girl's sailing camp this spring and has kayaked with me a few times. There's no turning back for her, I'm afraid. She's 13.
