coolant going right out the exhaust

okay i have a 1986 glastron with a mercrusier 470 inbord stright 4 motor. i got the boat for free and i want to get it running this summer. i have alot of mechanical knowledge as im a generator mech as well as a dsl mechanic but i know nothing about boats. so far what i know about thhis boat is that it has coolant to cool this motor. and what happens is as soon as i add coolant it starts to pour out the exhaust ports. and it fills into the cylinders any help would be greatly appreciated any thing else you need to know feel free to ask ill give ya anything you need

Thats a freshwater cooled motor, I've heard the exhaust elbow, or possibly the gasket, frequently go bad on those 470 motors, this could be your problem.

i know it has a bad head gasket but is that the only problem?????

Well, then you already know what the problem is, Yes that's usually what happens when the head gasket goes, fix that and we'll go from there.

These engnes have an aluminum block, & a steel head, a different coefficient of expansion between both metals, so it's another common issue with them.
