cooling alarm

I had my 85 hp 88 force on water and cooling alarm would go on and off. Mechanic checked it and he couldn't find any problems. Same think happened today. When I run engine on higher rpms alarm would sound. Turned off engine waited and started it back on. Alarm sound again but I run engine only on low rpm and alarm turned of. Same thing repeated few times. What's wrong with that engine? Anybody knows?

take the sensor out of the head and rig it up to your ohm meter or small bulb and battery ....then stick it in an electric kettle with a thermometer and turn on kettle ....check the temp it switches on....engine runs about 165 F so it should be well off at that temp ... if its ok check water pump etc.
