Re: copper or bronze coating on pontoons,

We live in an area with no Lowes sorry to say but I have purchased them at a local industrial supplier and you may get them at an auto parts place. Ask which would be best to use for aluminum because there are different compounds....the people at Lowes probably don`t have expertise with these . Get the flat one of at least 120 grit and pratice a bit on a scrap of aluminum sheet, GO SLOWLY, VERY LITTLE PRESSURE and you will see what I mean about the nice swirls it makes.here is a link to some tips ...remember you are not grindining to shape the metal but remove the finish and polish it up.http://www.ehow.com/how_4501521_grind-aluminum.html

Re: copper or bronze coating on pontoons,

i am going very lightly with the wire brush(just easen it into the area i am workin) also no heat, to keep the alum. hard, it seems the heat would also soften the alum. as long as the paint. i am finding it wont really be all that hard to clean the toons up to luster and shine (its worth the work)
