Rained all night and still raining this morning here in MN. One of the nicest summers I can recall. Hot every day, rains almost exclusively only over night.

I musta' missed the nice part ... I was up in the Mayer/Winstead area around the 4th. Hot, humid and mosquitos that could form up with the C-130's outta' Minneapolis. I heard it got better after I left.

Hot and humid is the nice part. That means warm lakes and an early season. I don't notice mosquitos after this many years. By the same token, an ultra heavy snow season is nice to me as well.

You guys up north of Nebraska are very lucky. Since the last week of June, we've had this high pressure area stall over Kansas that has produced 100+ degree days almost every day. Bone dry, too. We had 1/2 inch of rain in Lawrence last week but you couldn't tell because it ran into the inch wide cracks in the ground. Hoping we get some real soaking rain shortly because my brown yard crackles and crunches when you walk on it.

Re: Corn??? What corn?

Our corn is done for. Since May 5th we have had seven tenths of an inch of rain and that was last week and the power went out for 10 hours. At least I have a generator but it won't run the AC. 105 forecast again for today. We have had 13 days of triple digit highs this month so far. Lakes and ponds are so far down it isn't funny. They are even having trouble letting enough water through the dams to keep the Ohio River navigable. The Mississippi around St. Louis is really low and upstream is even worse. Now that MN has been getting a lot of rain it will help that anyway. Soybeans are our only hope for any farm income this year and they need rain badly too right now. No hay since first cutting in May. Long year ahead but at least everyone is healthy.

106 here. Cedar Rapids is at 107 and the RAGBRAI riders are rolling in there this afternoon. Should keep the local hospitals busy.

Rained just about every other day here in SC. Hot and muggy. 98 yesterday with 60% + humidity. Dew points above 70%. Lots of lightening filled thunderstorms. We came out of severe drought mode a couple of months ago
Gas prices went up 10 cent per gallon in the past week or so. I guess oil companies getting ready for the effects of the Corn/Ethanol shortage. Turning food into fuel. Well I guess they didn't count on a heat wave and a drought . I thought it was a crazy idea to begin with

I had forgotten about the bike ride. Those folks have to be nuts to do it. If it's 100 degrees out I'll wager the asphalt is around 140 or more. The old adage, "You could fry an egg on it" comes to mind.

Yeah, not my idea of a good time. I had my days mixed up and they were actually in Marshalltown last night. Major storm with 50 mph wind gusting to 70. Lot of tents flying around. Doesn't sound like a whole lot of rain, though, maybe half an inch. Got 0.2 here, just enough to crank up the humidity. Great lightening show, though.

Today they make the 84 mile trek to Cedar Rapids, 83?, 77% humidity. Sounds like fun.
