Hello everyone,

I just got back from a good weekend at Rend Lake Illinois. Anyway my boat ran fine the whole weekend, but after I got back in for the day I decided to give my father a call in South Carolina. Anyway, he was asking me if I ran 93 Octane fuel in my motor and I told him no and he said if you don't those older Johnson/Evinrude motors will lean out running on that 87 octane gas. He swears by the 93 octane fuel, he said it will also burn a piston up if I continue running on the 87 Octane fuel. What do you guys think? Should I continue running on 87 octane fuel or is 93 octane fuel better?

I believe it calls for 87 octane. Higher octane only for motors that are worked (higher compression, different timing, porting....). I'd check manual for callout, but pretty certain 87 is the ticket!!
