Correct plugs? 2002 Mec 75

can one of you Guru's reccomend the best plug for me. I have a 2002 merc 75 that has the "no gap" (i think) plugs in it now. I just bought the boat/motor and want to replace the plugs this week before running it this weekend. The previous owner claimed he never replaced them and I tend to believe him as they still have black overspray, presumably from when the motor was made!

Champion recommends QL78V or L78V, there are others that will recommend standard plugs but if you believe the manufacturers they all recommend surface gap plugs.

Check the decal on the port side of the engine block. NGK BUHW-2, which is a surface gap plug, should be the plug specified.
