I have a 1957 Lonestar 14' with a 1959 Johnson 18hp. the prop is 9.25 x 11. If I get lucky and go with the wind with only one person on board this boat will plane out in about 400 yards, the motor will run in the 3500 - 4000 rpm range. With two people or into the wind I cannot get the boat to plane, motor only about half throttle. I have considered a 9 x 9 prop but am leaning toward a hydrofoil first. Any suggestions? My motor height and trim is set correctly.

Re: Correct prop size for '57 Lonestar

You got the motor height set up properly.
Now get the correct prop.
Then, only if needed, get a foil.
A foil will only mask your problems and your ability to to get things right. A foil may help your planing ability, but will not get your motor to the desired rpm. Get the prop first.

What is the rpm range for your motor?
