I've just started to "awaken" my Dad's 1958 Evinrude Fastwin (15024) that has been stored for 30 years. I'm starting with coils, points and spark plug wires. Points and coil, no problem.... the spark plug wires are 50 years old. Can I just replace them with automotive type wires or is there a better option? Thank you.

you can get everything you need at laingsoutboards.com. i did a 58 35hp, points, condensers, coils, wires, carb kit, impeller. should be like new. check your compression before ordering anything, to make sure you have a good base. with these items, you should have it running for another 50 years. use the proper stuff, don't shortcut it.

The plug wire can be had at small engine shops. It must be solid core wire. DO NOT use automotive type carbon core wire...

As TD said, check the compression first. Don't spend a lotta loot if you have bad compression. I also have a '58 Fastwin but so far it's just sat in the shed.

Thanks to each of you for the input. Picked up necessary parts (solid core wires) at the local NAPA. Del
