I just bought this 92 celebrity and the stern drive's are severely corroded.
Any one have idea's on how to get these hard to get to place's. Does the out drive need to completely disassembled? or what I need to do?

Thanks, here's some pics of what I'm dealing with

I'm sure you'll get both responses: keep it on and take it off. Well i say that if you know how to take the drive off the restoring job would be much easier and better. But it can always be done with the drive on. I just think that one could do a better job if you could get to all the angles. Good luck.

In my opinion...if you just bought it, it would be very wise to remove them, inspect & service them, check your bellows, shift cables, gimball bearing etc...and then do your cleaning and restoration of the drives.

Just my opinion....

I vote for removing it....checking everything then strip it down to bare metal.
A good coat of Zinc Chromate primer then several coats of paint.
Replace all of the anodes..

Ayuh,.... I completely Agree with Ron,.... That boat has Problems....

Is that Bottom Paint on it,..?? If So, that's Why it's so Beat/Corroded,...
The Bottom paint should Never be within an Inch or 2 of the transom shield...

1 more Issue here,....
Resize your pictures to 480x640,....Then repost/ edit this thread....

Thanks for the info guys, I'll more than likely be taking it all apart over winter. Would sandblasting be a good option for getting in the tight spaces?

Yeah the bottom paint butts right up to the transom shield, but there's not any on the outdrive

well here in salt water land .....that's what most drives look like after they are left in salt for a few seasons...even when painted with anti fouling...aluminum is difficult to paint at best....I'd say get rid of whatever antifouling paint is up next to the transom shield...then follow the steps to strip it...prime and paint...be careful...zinc chromate primer is toxic stuff...
