corrosion question

hi
just got my annual service and only 6 days back in the water (salt) and i noticed that the anodes on the trim rams have already started to frost up, particularly the one closest to the jetty ( finger) twin bravo 2,s.

i tend to need then replaced every 8 months

i have a galvanic isolator and a bonding system and it has been checked for serviceability

also twin mercathodes that are working

however i now have a steel hulled boat next to me sharing the same jetty, ive spoken with the owner ( it appears it may have been a custom (home) built boat)

he claims that the hull is totally separate to the electrical system that his earth system is not earthed to the hull, even claims the motors are isolated from the hull, he has twin 90hp 4 stroke outboards, and they are raised out of the water when moored.

we are both running shore power, do you think i could be getting accelerated rates of corrosion of my anodes due to this other boat??

maybe i should find a new mooring within the marina

what are your thoughts

Re: corrosion question

You have a stray current issue, but it may not be from your neighbors boat, it may be from the marina shorepower. Ask for a different slip and see if the problem goes away. Had the exact same problem down here in Florida. The real problem is the marina will never admit it...

Re: corrosion question

Your neighbor's boat is not wired properly. His AC should have a ground connection on the boat and that should be tied to the boat's bonding system/DC ground. Based on the fact that he thinks the two systems should be isolated from each other, I'd be shocked if stray current from his boat is not a problem...
