corrosion

Hi,

I'm new on this forum and I have a question about my alumacraft Classic. I'm living in the netherlands and there is not much experience overhere with aluminium boats.

There are several spots on the boat with corrosion. I've seen on the internet an article about this:

Well, reading this give me no good feelings for the future. Has any of you experience about this problem? And, since Alumacraft also use foam in the boat and use a plywood floor, I had removed the middleplate Plywood. To my surprice there was strong corrosion on the aluminium what was in contact with the plywood.

I'm thinking to remove the paint on the bottom. And leave it in bare Aluminium. Have any of you experience with removing paint? Will the paintremover not harm the aluminium?

it's trailered and in the garage. I'm nearly every saturday on the water. It's not salt/brackish water. When I'm in the summertime at sea, I allways clean the boat with fresh water and wash it.

The most scarriest thing is the corrosion underneath the wood/carpet floor. So I'm also worried what can be happening at the places I can't see (inside in the stern etc.)

i suggest you put some zinc saciricial anodes on the boat, and motor.

Pressure treated wood will cause corrosion problem with aluminum and steel bigtime! Found this out (the hard way) when we used P/T for a shed and screwed the tin on it, got to the bottom of the box of screws and there was a note stating that you had to use stainless screws in P/T wood. Called the tin place and they confirmed this and said the steel screws would last about 3 years. MAN! what a job to do, remove and replace about 6,000 screws. :redface:
