I just bought a 1998 Rinker 232 Captiva, without a trailer. Any ideas of what a used trailer for that boat might cost me?

Thanks,

John

Re: Cost of Used Trailer

Find out why some one is selling a used trailer. If it as problems that need a lot of work a new one may be cheaper. There is a lot of difference in trailers and how they are made. A cheap trailer is just that. A good one will cost more but last a lot longer and be less expensive in the long run.

Im not trying to scare you.but, I bought a 12' jonboat without a trailer. I looked for 7 months till I found one (just by luck) I had an ad in the paper and talked to everyone I could, I even bugged the fella's on iboats. I didnt think a used trailer even existed?

suzuki40

I purchased a used trailer with my aquasport - i didnt realize both axles were rotted completely out, and the brake lines were cut (boat was on trailer) ... The cost to replace both axles, brakes, etc was LESS than buying a NEW tandem axle trailer with a 5 year warranty.

tandem axle trailers are tough to come by - do it right and drop the $2000 and get a new trailer - especially if you plan on keeping the boat.

I bought my '82 celebrity 21' from a guy at Lake of ozarks....

they guy was nice enough to let me keep it at his dock for a month until I found a trailer. Finally found one for sale from a marina just up the road from the boat. 2 axel galvanized 14" wheels for $750..no brakes

I got the boat home (3 hour drive)... come to realize that this trailer really can't handle the weight..absolutly maxed it out.

Sold it for $750 after putting a tire and new $100 winch on it, so lost money on that one, but to get my new trailer, I had to sell it fast.

I found a trailer on ebay for $750 in AK... they guy met me in springfield... 4 hour drive for me, 2 hour for him.
15" wheels and brakes. I had to get 5 new tires ($340) New brake coupler ($120) new brake lines ($20)...still needs new lights.. might have to repair the back of the brakes as the bleed plug will not come out and is rounded

I could have got a BRAND NEW trailer for about $2200..

I'm happy with what I got, because the trailer was made for a 25' boat, and I re-aranged everything to fit my 21' on it and have room for a storage box up front.

It took me 6 months to find the new trailer! Watching the paper and ebay every week.

Re: Cost of Used Trailer

JJRTAX,

I have a 17' open bow with a 75" beam. Its just a regular boat, but I had a hard time finding a trailer. Until one day I went around to the local marine dealers and one had this beautiful galvinized roller trailer. The boat fits beautifully. I only needed to buy a spare. I consider myself lucky. I paid $800 including tax and tags.

I would check out the newspaper any publications that list boats and boat supplies. I have a magazine called the Paper Shop that lists all types of used things ranging from boats to computers.

Also go to every marine dealer you can find.

Just make sure to take proper measurements before buying a trailer. Overall Length, Beam, and so forth.

Hope this helps you out. :)
