Got a problem the coupler on the boat trailor is welded to the frame and I would like to replace it with a new one. Is a welding torch the fastest easiest way to do this or is there another route? Also whats everyones recomendation on brand of coupler?

Re: coupler question

If it's welded on a welding shop can cut it off and put the new one on. As for brands I would not have a clue.

That's the way it's done. If you use the cutting wheel (vs. the grinding wheel) it takes no time at all. A torch would make a mess in this case...Cut the welds, and then take a cold chisel and BFH to get under the coupler. It will show you where you need to cut deeper. Once you get it to start moving, wail on the tip of the coupler (where the ball goes) and it will come right off.

Cutting wheel. As mentioned above a torch will only make a mess out of it.
