covering for a gunwale

redoing my ss starcraft and was wondering what kind of material to use? it is carpeted right now but i would like to replace it with something that would not absorb water and stay damp.had a ss back in the 70's and it had a sort of rubberized fabric on the gunwales.i know i can depend on you guys for the answer.

I used black sunbrella wrapped around 3/8 marine plywood a bit of mold resistant padding and stainless staples.

I used this stuff. Softside II Pattern Apex Colour 2555 Midnight - 00303914 and Apex Colour 2554 Brilliant White. The work was done locally by C+M upholstery but the fabric can be ordered just about anywhere.

It's a heavy marine vinyl and can be found at most fabric stores like Fanny's fabrics, etc. They usually have sample books and you can pick and choose.

I was looking for something to not hold water and be relatively tough as well.
