Cowling won't lock

Hello. I have a 2004 Yamaha 115 hp. I took the cowling off the get the motor started at the beginning of this season. I could not get the cover to lock back on and it looks like the cable from the single latch handle in the front is loose. When I pull the latch it does not engage the two latches in the back.

There appear to be three pairs of nuts that probably need to be adjusted like a turnbuckle system to tighten the cable but I can't figure it out. Does anyone know what the procedure is? I hate to drag the boat 40 miles to the closest dealer but if I can't figure it out, that's what I'll have to do.

Thank you.

Re: Cowling won't lock

I dont think Loose is the problem at the moment. Check that the cable with in its sheath moves. It may be seized ( like mine.) Pulling the cowling release handle also pulls the cable. The cable then pulls the rear latch ( to release) Clean and lubricate the 2 latches you can test its ability to latch and release with a screwdriver first. A loose cable may make it difficult to open the rear latch. So make sure it does so before putting your cowling back on.
