Who would have told you something like that. What year 290 is this? As of the 1990's lots of wood in them. Besides if it were solid fiberglass, which no boat is, would it have high moisture?

I have not checked up on Sea Ray's construction details lately, but we had Frisco boater's 1995 SeaRay featured here a few years ago and it was wood. I have a buddy with a 1996 270 and it is wood. . . .

There is a thread on boatdesign.net about a 2004 SeaRay 280 and it is wood. I see on some recent factory videos that it looks like a fiberglass grid on some large cruisers. So, maybe they have started to get away from wood. Most boat companies are pretty vague about what they actually use to build their boats.

These are the exact words that my broker said , the stringer will never rot because it is made of fiberglass , not sure if he meant it is completely made of fiberglass or just covered the wood. I told him about the 30% moister in the wood and that i am concerned that it will get to the point that it will rot out and he told me that in return.

Probably wood, but maybe you can substantiate it with a drill.

Of course, brokers know everything about boats, don't they

yep , ill be drilling a few holes in a few spots and purchase the direct meter to get the actual reading of moister. What do i do with the holes after tho? Just leave them or plug them up? I don't want any water getting into it.

Seal them up . . . if they are really wet, then you may have to let them dry out a bit. Epoxy or JB Weld would be good.

Here are some pictures of the testing that I did on my boat. Just had to drill two holes the with of the probes on the meter.

These are a couple of test areas that I did on the bulkhead that the surveyor said was wet. . . . it sure was. Typically, you will find high moisture in the lower parts of the structure.

I was able to email the manufacturer of my boat with the hull identification number and they were able to tell me if the boat has been constructed with wood. Have you tried contacting SeaRay?
