Cracked 12 gallon gas tank

I have a removable plastic 12 gallon tank that is a bit old but still good. Has a 3" x 3" crack at top corner where i recently dropped it. Should i have the tank "plastic welded" for 20 bucks or is this really worth doing, how long does a repair like this usually hold?

My view is that gasoline in the boat is too dangerous to take short-cuts. replace the tank.

I don't consider polyethylene/plastic tanks repairable....a new Moeller 12gallon tank is gonna cost you about $120....

That tank is most likely cross-linked polyethylene. Cross-linked polyethylene can not be plastic welded... (They could weld it, but it's not going to hold.)

I'm with the other poster's, time to replace the tank due to the damage.

seen moeller 12 gallon tanks on line for as low as 84 dollars brand new.

Put in a new tank. You're messing with fuel in a boat. Not like it's sitting on a farm tractor where you can jump off if something happens. JMHO.

I will just use my two 6 gallon tanks until i come across a deal, i can see it is a bad idea to use this tank.. throwing in garbage.

and while i have you experienced guys here!, i have an off-subject question: What the best way to paint a galvanized trailer? I have grinded off the rust/flakes and OSFO'ed it over night. Any special zinc coating or primer that i need to use? Thanks!

use a zinc chromate acid wash primer. try an auto parts store.
