Cracked/Chipped gelcoat help

Hello all!


I was thinking of trying to repair this with some 2 part epoxy putty. Is there a better way to do this? the missing gel coat is about 1 1/2" long and about a 1/4" wide, the black area in front of the crack is missing gel coat too.

yep....lots of ways....

but lets get you down to the dry dock where all the hull repairs happen.

Thanks, excellent thread BTW.

So I can use the epoxy to fill the chunk and finish with the gel coat?

The hull needs to be cleaned but I want to do this repair before any water can get in or around the chunks.

This is why I don't like our roller trailer......

No Gelcoat will not adhere to Epoxy. Use Polyester Resin Thickened with cabosil to fill the gouge and then mix some Gelcoat paste to finish it off. Wet sand and buff. Done!!!

You might consider doing a bottom paint job on there with all the Barnicles that you scraped off..

I would say these have been in the hull for at least 6 years. I have owned the boat for 2 of those 6, the boat is going into fresh water so other then them looking ugly I do not to worry about them. I did try so hull cleaner today with no success, any suggestions on how to remove them?

I have never really found a way to get rid of the Barnicle rings aside from sanding them off.

It never should have been allowed to get that bad on a bare bottom..but..it happens I guess.

As far as your repair..its just a Gel paste fill/sand/buff .. no need to get resin and cabosil.

What is your year/make/model .. I can probably get you the code ( you can call up Spectrum to find out yourself if you wish do double check ).
