Cracked Hull

My uncle hit something while out boating and took on a lot of water. Cracked the hull about 1 1/2’ to 2’.

Luckly no no one was hurt. He won’t trust his GPS again.

Is this something repairable or is it done??

Its repairable, however i would call your insurance company because that will need to be repaired inside and out

Insurance has been called I sure hope it’s repairable because out of everyone I known I would have never thought it would happen to him. He is so by the book. He got confused by the Gps and got in an area he did was not aware of. I’m glad I was not with him because I would have been right beside him.

Yes it can be fixed, but it is going to be costly, the inside of the boat is going to have to come out and then the repair made with the proper materials and understanding of the hull structure of the boat.

I'm not sure how easily it will be to repair that, assuming it is the 2008 Tahoe in your sig. Modern construction is 'clamshell' hull & deck assemblies vs. the older 'stick-built' structures. Where along the hull is the crack? Hard to tell from the close-up pictures.

Those G-D GPS units was it a grounding or hitting a rock or something.

In any event the insurance will pay (I hope he has insurance). The insurance co. will determine if it’s reparab. The insurance co. may consider it a total and pay what they consider the value of the boat is.

I repaired a crack like that on my SeaRay. Had to cut out the deck, and dig out the foam. Then some glass over the crack on the inside to seal it. I also made up a stringer to support the backside of the repair. Then re-foam the hull and reglass the "hatch" I made in the deck. I also puttied and glassed the outside of the hull for visual appeal.

I had carpet over the deck, so the repair was invisible. Not a bad repair, if you can get to the inside of the damaged area.

Strange there doesn't seem to be any impact mark or leading gouge mark.
I've seen damage like this from tie down straps too tight on the trailer, just saying.

Fed, my hull cracked without hitting anything. It wasn't even very rough that day. I blame insufficient foaming of the hull, allowing it to flex until it cracked. SeaRay was a top quality boat in those days, however, I suspect mine was made on a Friday...
