I have a 1998 yamaha v200w. I have a crack in the fin or skeg above the prop (The part that the trim tab bolts to) the crack is 4 inches long and runs from the edge directly above the prop along side the trim tab.
How can this be reparied to keep it from cracking further or breaking away completely?

Is there an epoxy that will fix this? if so whats the name and where can I find it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: cracks

Howdy, Behoss.

Welcome to iboats. :)

That is called the anti-ventilation plate, and the thing bolted to it is a hydrofoil.

First, remove and discard the hydrofoil. If that causes problems Smart Tabs are a better solution.

As for repairing the AV plate there are others here better qualified than me to advise you on that.

Good luck. :)

Re: cracks

Holder there JB.
He may be talking about the adjustable zink trim tab, which will go back on after the repair is made.
Call around your local welding shops. Any aluminum welder will fix that in no time! Just had that exact repair done two weeks ago. Cost me $50 and that included painting the area with primer after the welding.
ps... Get tha welded up before you take her out again and possibly knock that piece completly off!
Good luck... Canuck 16.

Re: cracks

any good welder with a tig can fix this easily behoss. most marine shops i know have a welder they use for prop repairs etc, find out who it is near you and go there direct. they may just want your gearbox however.
