Crank Balancing Questions

Hello,
Is there anyone out there that has access to a Mercury Sport Jet 90 crank (I believe it is the same as a Force 90) that can answer some questions? I need to know if there are weights welded on all the throws, or just the #1,3 throws. The reason I ask is that my crank is WAY off balance and I need to know where to add/take away weights to make it balance. Is there any reason why the crank should not be entirely neutral? Thanks for any help! This is all I need to have done to get this project done.

Re: Crank Balancing Questions

I have never heard of balancing a o/b crank. Matter of fact I think I never have seen anything in a manual about doing it .

Re: Crank Balancing Questions

I have seen some motors where the flywheel acts as the counter-weight. Not sure about yours, but I suppose it's a possibility.

I'd check with your local Merc dealer and have their tech take a look. If there's a counterweight missing he'll probably know just at a glance...
- Scott

Re: Crank Balancing Questions

Thanks guys,
If the crank were close to balanced, I wouldn't worry about it. However it is so bad that I believe that it would rip the motor apart if I were to reassemble it the way it is. Furthermore I had the crank tested with the flywheel and found out that the flywheel is a neutral and doesn't effect the balancing. I will try to get ahold of the dealer, but that isn't easy around here. Any more suggestions? Thanks!
