Hello,
Working on a 95 150Hp looper, J150GLEOM. Any neat tricks to line up the main bearings with the dowel pins in the block? This one is driving me nuts, spent half a day trying to align them.
Thanks

Re: crankshaft installation tips

With the bearing assembly laying sideways in the crankcase (turned 90 degrees) so that half of the locating hole is visible, gently scribe a mark/line on the other side of the sleeve. Now, when the scribe line is at its highest point, you know that the locating hole is straight down where it belongs (or quite close to it).

Now, with a gentle lifting/support of the crankshaft, you should be able to feel the locating hole of the sleeve drop down onto the retaining pin. I'm assuming that you did install the sleeve(s) to the crankshaft properly... not upside down?

Re: crankshaft installation tips

get some round bar a little bit smaller in diameter than the dowels & much longer place them in the block & feed the intake manifold on from the top every thing falls in to place

Huh????
These can be a b***h sometimes, you get one end end and other or center pops out. You can set the center 2 first and use a piece of pipe hanger strap and strap them in place with the crankcase bolts ...be careful with bottom seal carrier..

Joe,
Thanks for the tip, will give it a try. Bearings installed with retainer end down, not toward flywheel.

Faztbullet,
Thanks for the tip. If Joe's method does not work out, I'll give yours a try.
