this will be a ongoing thread as i renovate my "new" boat the link below shows what i hope is going to be a great boat but for know is what i am starting with. i have already discover after getting it home that the transom needs replaced. "something that did not surprise me" i think i will use sea cast, but i will know better after i open it up. any and all input will be appreciated as this is my first attempted at something like this so i have taken the first step before i bought it and faced the fact that i am jumping in feet first sink or swim

i hope someone can help me id the year i can not find a hin plate anywhere all i have is a plate the says it is a 17' Muskie with a serial # of M22930.
so the best i have come up with after hours on the web is what the post title says but no year. i believe it is late 60's but would like to know for sure

the tag says that this boat is rated for a 140hp ob does this seem safe and how fast would it go
the reason/purpose for this boat is water sports (tubing skiing) and fishing

check back as i will post pics along the way

That's a big ol' tri-hull. If you do good job with the stringers and transom it should handle it's max rated HP no problem. Might hit 40+ MPH with it.

imho, trash the rollers, by some bunk brackets, and use 2x6's on edge. as said thats a heavy old tri hull. it's will take 140 to push it. great project boat. see the seacast thread at the top of the forum. i just added more great info to it.

I know i am getting ahead of myself but what is the opinion of twin ob's of say 70hp instead of one at 140 hp? after looking at the cost of a 140hp on eBay

any input would be great as it helps with planning this project

besides eBay, where do you find descent used motors:confused:

while i am to busy at work to tear into my "new" boat i am planning everything and doing budget planning. (is that a oxymoron?) for the things i know i will need. already figured about 400.00 or so for sea cast for the transom rebuild and that will go up if the stringers are shot. still need to get a guesstimate for seating but that is a long way off

Re: Crestliner Boats 17' Muskie Bow Rider Vee Wing

i am thinking of going with a 16 gallon fuel tank for this boat
does that seem right? too big /to small

this is the one i am looking at
http://www.iboats.com/Tempo_TP18L_1...d.270812--list_time.1186613583--view_id.40332

the original was mounted under the splash well but i am thinking that with a big motor 125-140hp planned for the boat that maybe the tank should go more forward. i am looking at under the deck between the consoles.

what do you think?

ok i am killing this thread as wife decided she likes the boat below better
i have it up for sale for 500.00 obo
the new boat was bought for the motor but turned out to be less of a project boat as someone has already glassed all flooring and i can find no soft spots plus transom seems sound
