You know, comments regarding our thoughts. So far, they seem well thought out and IMHO productive as it has people thinking about the problems.

As to you not being in trouble, you admit you used pot so it is luck and only luck you didn't get caught and sent to prison. As to keeping people locked up we come back to the same question of what happens when they are released? Apparently too many want to pretend that doesn't happen and they never have to deal with it, right up until a convicted felon harms them or a loved one and then there is wailing to no end.

I am not picking on you, I'm just saying that if the goal of the system is to prevent more crimes (deterrent) its a complete failure and the US has gone nuts with imprisonment compared to, well anyone and it isn't getting better, its getting worse.

geez my neighbors grew pot when i was a kid, sure we smoked it a bit, grew outta that real quick, also as true Krauts, we were allowed one beer or glass of wine each Sunday dinner with the whole family, starting when we were maybe 13???? Big deal, none of us grew up to be felons or bad people, all great parents now.....

Yes, a complete and utter failure that was repealed.

Yep, that's why I don't feel pot should be legalized, once it's here, it's here forever.......

Umm, it has been here forever and isn't going anywhere from all indications. The only real question is what is the best way to manage it.

No kidding......... So let's just legalize it since it isn't going anywhere. That will solve all our issues. And let's forget about the ramifications that have been previously mentioned. Why stop there? There are other drugs that "isn't going anywhere", legalize them.

Kinda reminds me of people. If you get my drift. Think about it.........

It's been obvious in my posts where I stand on the drug issue. No more comments are needed.......

Perhaps we have to simply swallow the bitter pill and admit some people can not be parents and remove the kids from the crappy environment. That of course would require that we make serious investments to help them but it has to be cheaper in the long run, not to mention fewer victims. By the way, believe it or not in my state (MO) they put fathers in prison everyday over child support. I have NEVER understood how that helps anything in any way. The guy has ZERO chance of ever making payments if he's behind bars. Go figure...

I also agree, tough subject to talk about without politics creeping in but I'm trying....
Bubba,
You have extremely valid points, and I cant really debate you on your fine and well thought points. My idea of prison and then re-entering the general population would shock most Americans,. The basic idea is that if the pain of prison was great enough, and completely self funded (which is entirely possible), the second part of paying your debt to society is to prove you are willing and able and actually being a productive member to society. You make it 10 times more nasty when we jail our populations and quit making it a country club, with full human rights type environment. Jail is ugly, but the US jails are a joke, and they deter no one. We incarcerate more citizens than any country in the world. We fail as parent[/B]s to teach our kids too avoid breaking the laws. In our efforts to make sure everyone's rights have been respected, we are losing the battle. Most prisoners eat and have better health care than the general population. That's kind of where the country club comment came from.

Since this thread kinda goes everywhere, (sorry ezbtr)
What about the pharmaceutical aspect to the war on drugs especially a drug like oxytocin, the miss use of prescription drugs is far more detrimental than cannabis.

YUP, does not matter what country your from, when they order horse blinders up for the population, they are effective in making them work.

Now what does that say about most of us? (To lazy to do the applicable reading, or just to lazy???)

Over prescribing or miss diagnosing and then miss prescribing, its incredible how many kids are stealing the OXY-whatever drugs from Mom and Dad as well, and then the shock of people that have no idea that the prescription drugs are almost always derivatives of street drugs(well vise versa), I mean do any of these people not research what they are putting in their bodies?

You know lipp I would rather work with a guy that smokes a joint and drinks beer than a guy that pounds back a 26-OZ+++ of hardstuff per night.

Guys that drink hard stuff (myself included) have got issues. (but I am running the show so I give myself latitude)

I hear ya bud, Personally I don't have an opinion either way, never had the chance to work with someone I knew was under the influence either way but I will take your word for it. Kinda strange but now that you mention working with this situation, I thought about it and for 27 years I have worked with quarterly drug tests, now that may seem strange but get this, now that I work for the Sheriff's Office I haven't had a drug test in over two years LOL!!
