Re: Current draw from older Merc type 1 power trim pump
Right you are, wired direct to the battery without any protection. In my mind that is a no-no.
Right or wrong, I want to put some protection device (fuse or circuit breaker) in-between the battery and the pump. Any idea what current draw this thing takes?
Re: Current draw from older Merc type 1 power trim pump
Nope,...
But,.. If you look in the parts listings for the newer Merc.s,..
They have now gone to Lawyer Approved fuses mounted to the Hot wire, at the Starter....
I'm sure you could jury-rig 1 of those in place,+ I'm sure it'll handle the amperage....
Re: Current draw from older Merc type 1 power trim pump
Merc still recommends hooking them directly to the battery, but they do have the square block fuse (110A) mounted directly on the relays for the main power to the relay.
Here is a picture.

I had never researched what the rating was of those square fuses.....but I would trust Don. So the correct answer would be a 110 amp fuse. As far as I'm concerned, there should be a fuse on every hot lead, in this case a 110 amp.
