Finished fitting stringers, put in crossbraces at points where floor pieces will join. All that is left is a bit of adjusting, final cleaning, and glassing. That will happen this Saturday...

Looks fantastic.. very professional

I am curious...

IF water does somehow get in between the outer stringers etc...

how does it get out again???

have you made channels for this? or is it not necessary?

regards

Franki

I am going to replace the stringers in my boat as well I was wondering what kind of wood you used and what you have to do to get the wood ready to be covered? Any tips you can give me would be great. Are you going to foam in the floor, if so what type of foam are you using??

You going to add any bulkheads or pannels inbetween the stringers? 10-4 on makeing sure water can get out if it gets inbetween the stringers. Just make sure you seal up the cuts. Looking very good so far.

Kenbo, I assume by limber holes you mean drainage between the stringers? There are small notches at the lower corners of the stringers where they meet the transom, so any water that does get in will drain to the rear and into the central bilge.

Hawkeye, what you see is what you get. The only bulkheads are between the two middle stringers, there isn't a need for any anywhere else.

AlanR1, I am using 3/4 acx, You can use marine ply if your wallet doesn't object, and I do not do anything but cut and glass it into place. I use plenty of resin, mixed so that it it will cure at a rate that will let it soak into the wood, but not soak so much as to draw from the glass too much. By the time I am done, not a single piece of wood will be bare and exposed.

Jason, Thats exactly what I meant. Its hard to tell from the photos. I trust you also left space under the rear bulkhead that you have between the two center stringers. You just want to make sure that you dont leave any pockets where water can accumulate, because if it can, it will somehow! Looks good so far! Good Luck :)

Re: cut & fit stringers-part 2

djohns19, I'll probably build it. I have an idea what I want, and have not found any prefabs that meet my wants, and if they come close, they cost more than what I am willing to spend. I will either build it from wood or fab up a mold and glass one from scratch. One dilemma I have is that I need weight forward. Tri-hulls just love to porpoise, and I have removed a lot of weight by cutting out the old consoles and removing the lounge seats. I have eliminated about 200 pounds, but will gain some of that back. If I make the console from wood (probably 1/4 ply on 1x1 frame) and fill/sand/paint, it should be fine, and will weigh a bit more than a glass console. I will also be mounting the battery in the console as well, and there will be a forward seat/storage compartment integrated as well. I have decided against my pilot house concept, instead I will eventually buy a T-Top. They have them for $500 on Overtons. I decided I want the openness.

I am still a week or more away from worrying about the console issue.

Jason,

I'm with ya' on building it. Might I suggest 1/2" as opposed to 1/4"? My console is 1/2" with 1" X 1" supports

Center consoles take a beating from standing driver/passenger. Plus, you need the weight forward.

1/2 inch sounds good, probably what I'll go with. I'll use 3/4 for the surface that the wheel control and motor controls will bolt to. I'll glue 'n screw the whole mess together, and buy some plexi and heat/bend my own windshield.

JasonJ ... I talked to this guy a few weeks ago at the Dania marine flea market and he makes quite a few different style consoles... Might be worth a look-see...
http://www.cmmarineproducts.com/

P.s. Djohns, I've been kinda looking for that windshield guy on e-bay... Thanks...
