Cut holes in doghouse?

Do you think a vacuum gage hooked up to a small hole in the doghouse would be a better diagnostic? I think the hole needed to set that up would be far smaller and easily hidden with a button or trim piece. Any change in the gage with the lid shut would be very telling, just my 2 cents...

The choke seems to be working fine I’m concerned about the exhaust leak where the heat exchanger tube comes out of the front of the exhaust manifold thinking that the carb is sucking that exhaust when the doghouse goes down. And also thanks for the gauge idea.
